What’s New This Week!

“In the library I felt better, words you could trust and look at till you understood them, they couldn’t change half way through a sentence like people, so it was easier to spot a lie.” ― Jeanette Winterson, Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit

Hi everyone.
Please refer to this safety brief to remain up-to-date on emergency procedures related to fire emergencies. Please contact your individual building BSC for site specific questions regarding evacuation plans and meeting locations.
Here is a list of your individual building security coordinators should you need that information. Hint: It’s near the top of the page in the What is a BSC box.

Cooper Refresh!

Starting this week Cooper Library is getting a much needed refresh to the outside of the building. Crews began spraying and cleaning the outside of Cooper Library to begin our update to the building envelope. A building envelope job is where engineers focus on the design, maintenance, and analysis of a building’s exterior “skin.” The work is being completed to ensure the physical barrier separating the indoors from the outdoors is energy-efficient, weather-resistant, and structurally sound to prevent moisture intrusion, air leaks, and thermal loss. This process will take up most of the summer with areas of the sidewalk around the library blocked at different times for safety. Please be mindful when walking the exterior of the building during this time. At the end of the project we will have a clean, crisp building again just in time for Cooper’s 60th birthday!

Congratulations, Andrea!

From an email from Ariel Turner on 5/13:
Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that Andrea Grimes has been hired as the eCollections Manager for Clemson University Libraries, working within the Acquisitions team in Collections and Discovery. Her start date will be May 16, 2026, and she will report to Joni Addis. In her new role, Andrea will be assisting us with the management of our substantial eresources collection, including ordering, reviewing license agreements, posting payments and activating and maintaining online access.
Andrea has been with Clemson Libraries for 28 years, most recently as a valued member of the Continuing Resources team, where she has ensured continued access to our standing orders, periodicals, and microfilm, as well as serving as the Libraries’ expert in book repairs and preservation. Over the past year, Andrea has graciously dedicated a portion of her time to supporting Acquisitions in eresources. She has since gained experience in processing invoices, vendor relations, and streaming resources management.
Andrea has already made wonderful contributions to Clemson University Libraries in her previous roles, and we are excited about the knowledge, talent, and experience that she will bring to this position.
I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude to the search committee: Renna Redd (Chair), Camille Cooper, and Russell Terry.
Please join me in congratulating Andrea on her new role in Collections and Discovery!
Best,
Ariel
