About the Committee

Charge

The Libraries Advisory Committee (LAC) serves as an advisory body to and liaison between the faculty and the Dean of Libraries.

Specifically to:

  • Advise on funding needs necessary to efficiently provide the type and quality of services needed by the university community within the context of a research university environment
  • Advise on general policies related to the quality/depth of collections, services, instruction program, and infrastructure, as well as on major new initiatives and assessment processes
  • Participate in strategic visioning with corresponding benchmarking criteria
  • Consider broad national issues such as scholarly communication and open access, and communicate these perspectives, as appropriate, within and externally to the university
  • Facilitate communication with and obtain feedback from the university community on library collections, programs, services, infrastructure, and communication mechanisms
  • Advocate on behalf of the Libraries to assist in raising the organization’s profile and ensure its success
