Remote Services

The following policy pertains to the provision of services to Clemson University affiliates at remote locations.

Definitions

Clemson University has a large number of faculty, staff, and students involved in coursework, research, and special programs located off the main campus. These patrons are referred to as ‘University Affiliates at Remote Locations’ and are eligible for many library services via email, online catalog, and telephone. Whenever possible, please search the library’s catalog first.

University Affiliates at remote locations are defined as

  • Undergraduate students enrolled in off-campus courses or programs.
  • Currently enrolled graduate students doing research or taking Clemson courses off campus.
  • Currently employed faculty or staff located off-campus.

User Services

Clemson University has a large number of faculty, staff, and students involved in coursework, research, and special programs located off the main campus. These patrons are eligible for Scan and Deliver, Off-Campus Delivery, Research, Course Instruction, Course Reserves, and Digital Scholarship and Publishing services as well as additional assistance at Ask a Librarian.

It is helpful if the patron identifies the program (such as Distance Ed, Telecampus, etc.).

Research Services

Requests for research assistance may be submitted at Ask a Librarian. For extensive research, the patron will be encouraged to consult with the subject specialist . Research personnel will provide aid with finding sources of information but will not interpret information, especially in the areas of medicine, law, patents or taxes.

A referral to Document Delivery Services will be made for items not available electronically.

Course Instruction

Faculty may request instruction from librarians to help learners increase their information, digital, or AI literacy skills. Faculty may also consult with your liaison librarian for help in embedding these literacies into assignments and courses.

Document Delivery

University Affiliates at remote locations may request the delivery of Clemson University Libraries materials through the Online Catalog. Items will be shipped to the patron’s address and will include a free return label. Books will be checked out to the patron using the patron’s university ID. Eligibility requirements apply. Scans will be delivered electronically. The patron will bear the responsibility for circulated items until they are returned to the Libraries. Materials may be renewed through email or over the phone.

Resource Sharing

University Affiliates at remote locations may utilize the Clemson University Libraries’ Interlibrary Loan Service to request books and/or scans of materials from other libraries. ILL requests may be submitted through the web request form. The materials will be routed to the requester by the fastest appropriate means available. The patron will bear the responsibility for circulated items until they are returned to the Libraries. These items are susceptible to fines. Please allow for travel time when returning items to the library. Renewals may be requested through email .
