A new series of student-created art is now on display on the fourth floor of Cooper Library outside of the dean’s office. Titled “Initial Impressions: Selections from the Print Studio,” the display features monotypes and relief prints created by art majors and minors in the Beginning Printmaking studio taught by Mandy Ferguson.
Monotypes are images that have been applied to a flat surface using printing ink or paint. Relief prints are images made from a block of material, such as wood, that has been carved with tools to create a design. Ink is then applied to the material and then printed by hand or with the use of a press.
The monotype assignments were focused on students’ interests, and the relief print assignments were self-portraits highlighting aspects of students’ personalities.
The art will be displayed in Cooper until April 12, 2025.
