Position Description and Duties |
The Student Security Assistant supports the safety and security of Cooper Library by performing routine monitoring and access control duties. This position assists in maintaining a secure and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors during evening, weekend, or special event hours. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct scheduled walking rounds of academic buildings and surrounding areas to monitor safety, security, and facility conditions. Secure and close internal spaces, including classrooms, offices, and common areas, according to established procedures. Assist with crowd monitoring and basic crowd control during events, peak usage times, or special circumstances. Monitor building access points and report unauthorized access, safety concerns, or suspicious activity to appropriate personnel. Provide a visible security presence and offer basic assistance or direction to building occupants and visitors. Respond to routine security-related incidents and escalate concerns to supervisor or campus security as appropriate and according to procedures Complete incident reports and communicate observations or issues clearly and professionally. Support emergency procedures, including evacuations or lockdowns, as directed. Perform other related duties appropriate to a lead student role in support of campus safety and operations. |

Additional Information |
QUALIFICATIONS: Current enrollment in a graduate program. Strong observation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment. Ability to walk and stand for extended periods and perform routine physical activity. Availability to work evenings, weekends, or special events as needed. Prior work history in security or customer service is helpful. |
