From the Dean: Welcome back, faculty

Faculty colleagues,

Welcome back!  As you begin a new year, I am writing to share some key changes that occurred in the Libraries during summer break and to remind you of key library services we provide to assist you with your teaching and scholarship. We have everything you need to succeed at Clemson.

Everything you need for your teaching

Everything your students need to be successful

  • We offer bookable study rooms and collaborative and quiet study spaces.  We added 2 new study rooms to 4th floor over the summer.
  • We provide technology for checkout, everything from video cameras and greenscreens to mics and calculators – anything your students will need to complete a project for your class.
  • The Adobe Digital Studio (ADS) offers in-person assistance for digital media projects. Makerspace equipment (3D printers, scanners, fabric printers) was relocated to ADS over the summer and the space is in the midst of a makeover funded by Adobe, Inc.
  • The Clemson Writing Lab has relocated to Cooper Library 3rd floor to provide students assistance with their writing.  The move is part of a Learning Commons initiative, which aims to provide one-stop referral and assistance to student support services across Clemson’s campus.

Everything you need for research

  • Over 3 million books, journals and other resources, physical and electronic.
  • Don’t see what you need?  Use interlibrary loan to request the information from another library.
  • Data support (research data management plans, data deposit, data visualization) is now available in the Libraries’ new Scholars’ Lab.  Stop by or contact Megan Sheffield at msheff@nullclemson.edu.
  • The Social Media Listening Center has relocated to Cooper Library 5th floor.  They can assist you in conducting research and analyzing data related to social media.
  • The Libraries offers an Open Access Publishing Fund you can apply for to defray the cost of article processing fees.
  • Ready to publish?  Upload your research to the TigerPrints Research Repository.
  • Coming soon:  Faculty Scholars Commons.  We are in the process of developing a space where faculty can meet informally with colleagues, work on their research, get tailored assistance, and present their research results (example – NC State Libraries).  We’ll be launching a survey later this semester asking for your help in developing this idea.

Everything you need to relax and unwind

  • Meet with colleagues in Starbucks on Cooper Library’s 5th floor.
  • Popular reading and audiobooks are available in the library and online.
  • State Park passes are available to all of SC’s 47 parks for FREE!
  • A Reflection Room is available on the 2nd floor so you can relax and unwind.  The room includes cushions, seating, yoga mats, a bench, plants, a water feature, a sound machine, and rugs.

We encourage you to visit Cooper Library or our other locations in Lee Hall, Tilman Hall, and Strom Thurmond Institute.  Building access still requires an ID.  Please ensure your students are aware.

We wish you the best this academic year.  If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out! We’re available in-person and online.
