Clemson University’s Cooper Library invites artists from the university and the Clemson community to submit works for a juried exhibition, organized in parallel with the upcoming international conference, “Lincoln’s Unfinished Work.”
We are seeking works that reflect on one or more of the conference themes:
- The promise and reality of ‘a new birth of freedom’ as articulated in the Gettysburg Addres
- The past, future, and realities of race relations in the U.S.
- The struggle for full American citizenship : voting rights, civil rights, social and legal justice
- The prospects for national unity in the face of deep division over race, politics, and ideology
- When, what, and where is ‘The New South’? Who are we now?
- Incorporating western lands into the country and the status of native peoples
- The unfinished struggle of women for equal citizenship.
Expanded themes: Clemson University’s racial past/present; black lives, landscapes, and cultures; democracy and protest.
We welcome submissions in any medium or mix of media, including digital works, and in any style, made within the last 5 years.
Exhibition site & dates: R. M. Cooper Library, November 27 – December 12, 2018.
Submission deadline: Tuesday, November 20, 2018 – 6:00 p.m.
Juror: Dr. Kendra Stewart-Tillman, Director, Gantt Multicultural Center
Prizes: 1st place $300 – 2nd place $150
- Recipients will be selected by the juror and announced at the juror’s talk
Submission Guidelines:
- Send up to 3 digital images of each work (principal image plus 2 detail images, if necessary) via email to: kathye@nullclemson.edu.
- Limit: no more than 4 submissions per artist.
- Image file names should include artist’s name and submission number.
- Subject line of email: Lincoln : First & Last Name [Ex: Lincoln : Mary Martin]
- Images must be high-quality JPG format ONLY, in full color, 300 dpi.
- In the body of the email, state name of artist, title of work, medium, year, dimensions, description, insurance value, and any necessary technical
- Information/installation requirements. Images should be in correct orientation and should accurately reflect the quality and content of the artwork.
- No image file size greater than 3MB, please.
Video or interactive work should be submitted as a link to a viewable online copy. The sample should be shown online in its full length. YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, or similar platforms will be acceptable. It is understood that online versions of video files may be of lower quality due to file compression and/or Internet formatting.
Accepted works must be framed or otherwise installation-ready.Accepted works to be delivered to the Cooper Library, Room 306a, by 4:30 p.m. on November 26th.
Reproduction rights:
Clemson Libraries reserve the right to use the digital images of accepted works in promotional materials
for the exhibition.
