A group of area elementary and middle school students guest-starred on the latest episode of the “Tigers in the Archives” podcast as part of their experience in Clemson’s Hidden History Camp this past summer.
Hosted by the Woodland Cemetery Historic Preservation Project, Hidden History allowed elementary and middle school students to explore some of the lesser-known aspects of Clemson history through historic site tours, archeology digs and family history activities. The campers also toured Special Collections and Archives in the Strom Thurmond Institute. Podcast host and outreach and instruction archivist Dr. Tara Wood took the opportunity to interview the students about their experiences.
The students examined artifacts, photographs and documents from different aspects of the University’s history, including its days as an all-male military school, athletics, Tiger Band and student life in the past. The students learned to analyze the materials just as researchers would. Wood then interviewed the students about their impressions of the different materials and the stories they told about Clemson’s history.
“Tigers in the Archive” shares Clemson history through an exploration of Special Collections and Archives materials. It is available on Apple Podcasts, Google, Spotify and other major podcasting platforms.
