Open positions: senior web developer, marketing and outreach coordinator, library specialist

Clemson Libraries is hiring three staff positions. Applications can be submitted for any of these positions on the Clemson Job Board.

Web Developer

Clemson University Libraries seeks a web developer who will direct all aspects of the Libraries’ external and internal web presence. This position will lead web-related strategic planning, goal setting, and policy development for the Libraries in coordination with leadership, stakeholders, and partners. This individual will perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities of the Web Developer include

Web Development and Management:
Directs all aspects of internal and external web presence for the Libraries. Designs and prototypes websites and themes. Maintains and schedules backups of content, users, and the content management system(s). Installs, modifies, and updates plugins and applications. Ensures compliance with current accessibility standards and university branding. Manages migration of legacy websites and applications into current systems. Supervises employees and students as needed. E/40%
Strategic Planning and Usability Testing:
Directs strategic planning for the Libraries’ overall web presence. Develops and implements policies and standards for web presence in consultation with senior management, stakeholders, and partners. Consults with employees on the design of workflows and implementation of project management principles and tools to enhance work. Evaluates web presence through ongoing assessment of analytics data and regular usability testing. E/35%
Application Integration and Server Administration:
Collaborates with programmer to build integration interfaces between web applications and other internal and external systems. Performs web server and database administration tasks as needed at a Unix/Linux shell command line. Contributes to development, implementation, and assessment of other software applications. E/15%
Training and Compliance:
Regularly creates and maintains documentation. Provides training and technical support for content managers and partners. Adheres to and complies with all University standards and procedures. E/10%
Required Qualifications/Experience: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
  • Two years demonstrated experience in web development

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

  • 2 to 3+ years experience with WordPress and custom themes/plugins. Intermediate programming skills for application development with PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and jQuery. Database design & implementation.

 

Marketing & Outreach Coordinator
Clemson University Libraries seeks a Marketing & Outreach Coordinator who supports marketing, communications, outreach and events. Manages the Libraries social media channels.  This individual will plan, coordinate, and participate in outreach events that promote Libraries resources and services.  They will serve as central contact to anyone interested in holding an event in Cooper Library or associated venues and will perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities of the Marketing & Outreach Coordinator include:

Marketing/Communications:  
Oversees all of Clemson Libraries social media channels to provide an informative, fun and engaging platform for information about Libraries products and services. Plans, manages and posts content.  Supervises student interns. Monitors social media statistics and usage. With the Director of Marketing and Communications, develops long term plans and strategies for social media.  With the Graphics Manager, develops templates for handouts aligned with Libraries’ branding. Assists with writing articles and posting to the libraries blog. Assists with photography and videography.  Other duties as assigned. E/40%
Outreach:
In collaboration with the Teaching and Learning department, plans, coordinates, and participates in outreach events that promote Libraries resources and services such as tours, orientations, contests, and special events. Creates and edits publications for use at these events.  Documents the Libraries participation in events and keeps an inventory of handouts and giveaways.  Provides data for assessment of outreach events.  Keeps overall outreach/event calendar.  Plans and manages branded items for giveaways (swag).E/25%
Events:
Coordinates with external partners who wish to hold events in Cooper Library. Manage event reservation system and ensure that rooms are set up for events; manage Libraries branding/marketing at events as needed; assist with event promotion as appropriate. E/25%

Service, Compliance, Safety, and Professional Development:
Participates in library and university service activities, such as committees and task forces.  Complies with University, State, and Federal policies and procedures. Maintains a safe and secure working environment.  Participates in professional development such as workshops, webinars, and conferences related to job functions or to increase knowledge of the library or university. E/10%

Required Qualifications/Experience: 
  • A bachelor’s degree and experience related to the development and dissemination of informational material.
  • Relevant marketing/communications experience, 1+ years work experience

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

  • Education: Communications, journalism, marketing, English or related field
  • Experience: Marketing, communications and/or outreach experience in a library

 

Library Specialist for CU-ICAR (part time)

Manages the daily operations of the CU-ICAR library. Provides circulation and basic reference services. Organizes and maintains collections. Creates a positive impression of the Clemson University Libraries by providing exemplary customer services. This is a part time, 20 hr/week position, located at the CU-ICAR campus in Greenville, SC. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities of the CU-ICAR library specialist include:

Customer Service
Manages the daily operations of the CU-ICAR Library and provides excellent customer services. Answers informational, technology, and basic research questions and refers in-depth questions to librarians. Checks out library materials, technology equipment, and other circulating items using the Integrated Library System (Alma). Stays aware of and applies library policies and procedures. Records interactions and usage statistics for assessment. E/60%

Outreach  & Scheduling
Collaborates with Libraries marketing director to create, implement, and maintain ongoing awareness campaign and publicize services, collections, and instructional opportunities to faculty and students at CU-ICAR.  Under direction of the Engineering Librarian, works with staff at CU-ICAR to facilitate and schedule ongoing workshop series. Delivery Services & Collections
Facilitates library materials delivery for students and faculty at CU-ICAR and other Greenville campuses. Collaborates with other library and CU-ICAR departments to develop, streamline, and assess the Greenville materials delivery and pickup service.  Receives, distributes, and returns materials requested from other library locations.  Organizes and maintains library collections, keeps collections in order and conducts routine inventory. Picks up and shelves materials daily. E/10%

Safety, Development, & Service
Maintains a safe and secure environment within the Library. Participates in professional development such as training, workshops, and webinars related to job functions or in order to increase knowledge of the Libraries or University. May serve on Library working groups or committees. E/10%

Required Qualifications/Experience:

A high school diploma and relevant library experience. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for work experience.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree

At least one year library experience; any type of customer service experience is preferred.
