This month, the Data Visualization Lab (DVL) offers a series of workshops to help students, faculty and staff leverage a variety of artificial intelligence (AI) tools that streamline the data visualization process. All events are hybrid and will take place in the DVL, located in room 413 at Cooper Library.
“SAS using ChatGPT” kicks off the calendar on April 6 from 11:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. and is presented by Ameya Unmesh Deshpande, a student assistant in the Data Visualization Lab. Also known as Statistical Analysis Software, many major banking companies, healthcare companies and government agencies still utilize SAS today. This workshop teaches how to code in SAS with the help of ChatGPT.
On April 8, “Intro to SQL with AI Assistance” walks through the essential concepts of Structured Query Language (SQL), a standard programming language for storing, processing and manipulating databases. Users will learn to write their own data queries and effectively prompt ChatGPT to generate, refine, and understand SQL queries for faster data analysis. Syed Shahzad Abdul Wajid, another Data Visualization Lab student assistant, will lead the event, which will take place from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.
Following the SQL workshop is “Building Interactive Shiny Apps in R Studio using ChatGPT” from 11 a.m. – noon. Hosted by DVL student assistant Abiola Majekodunni, this seminar explains how to transform R scripts into dynamic apps while employing AI as a coding assistant. No web development experience is necessary to attend.
On April 15 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., “Python using ChatGPT” provides an introduction to PandasAI and PyGWalker, two AI-native tools that simplify data analysis and visualization. These platforms help generate insights using natural language prompting and bridge those insights to production-ready Python code.
Rounding out the month is “Qualtrics using ChatGPT” on April 21 from 11 a.m. – noon. Presented by Yaswanth Mulakala, manager of the DVL, this workshop covers how to design effective surveys using ChatGPT and successfully manage survey responses within Qualtrics.
All DVL events are free for students, faculty and staff. Click the links above to register for each workshop or visit the DVL website to learn more.
