Carolina Day 2026 to celebrate the legacy of Gen. Andrew Pickens

In celebration of Carolina Day 2026, the Clemson University Historian, Historic Properties, and Old Stone Church will partner with the Pickens County 250th Commission on the American Revolution to host an event celebrating the life, faith and legacy of Gen. Andrew Pickens who served in the Revolutionary War. This event is scheduled for Sunday, June 28, from 2-5 p.m. at Old Stone Church, followed by a tour of Hopewell Plantation.

The event will begin with a tour of the Old Stone Church Cemetery led by the Gen. Andrew Pickens Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution from 2- 3 p.m. The tour will highlight the 16 Revolutionary War soldiers buried in the Old Stone Church Cemetery.

The program will begin at 3 p.m., and will include a keynote address by Clemson University Historian Otis Pickett titled “The Faith of the Fighting Wizard Owl: Andrew Pickens as a Presbyter, Elder and Churchman.” In addition to serving as University historian, Pickett is an ordained Presbyterian Elder and researcher of the history Presbyterianism in South Carolina. The lecture will be followed by a Q&A session with Pickett, as well as special recognitions of members of several organizations, including the Colonial Dames, Sons of the American Revolution and Daughters of the American Revolution.

The event will continue from 4:15-5:15 p.m. with an open house and self-guided tour at Hopewell Plantation, which was the former home of Pickens. History professor Rod Andrew and Pickett will also be available to answer questions, and guests will have an opportunity to buy Andrew’s book titled “The Life and Times of General Andrew Pickens.” Andrew will be signing copies of his book at the event.

Carolina Day is free and open to the public.
