Clemson University recently celebrated the 100th anniversary of its graduate school. A new book published by Clemson University Press digs deep into the history of graduate education at Clemson, which helped transform Clemson College into Clemson University.
“Graduate Education at Clemson and the Evolution to a University” by Frankie Felder details the successes and challenges of building graduate education and research at Clemson. Using historic records and photographs from Special Collections and Archives, as well as newspapers and interviews, Felder meticulously researched the 100-year journey of the Graduate School. The book also features 100 graduate alumni trailblazers from a variety of disciplines.
Felder is the senior associate dean emerita of the Graduate School at Clemson University. She was the first African American hired as a dean in Clemson’s history and spent 30 years mentoring students, faculty and staff primarily around issues of graduate education policy and implementation, and U.S. and international diversity.
