
Clemson Libraries has partnered with the libraries from Coastal Carolina University and the University of South Carolina to host a series of online workshops for S.C. Love Data Week February 9-13.
All workshops are open to students, faculty and staff at the three universities and are designed for people at any level to learn about a variety of data-related topics.
Basic Data Cleanup and Visualization Using Generative AI — Monday, February 9, 1-2 p.m.
Adam Johnson, learning technologies and data librarian at Coastal Carolina University, will introduce participants to practical techniques for cleaning messy datasets and creating clear, compelling visualizations with the help of generative AI tools. Register for this workshop.
Beyond the Buzzwords: Exploring Unconventional Careers in Data — Tuesday, February 10, 1-2 p.m.
Stacie Powell, data services librarian at Clemson University, will moderate a panel discussion with professionals in fields from areas such as digital humanities, government sectors, libraries and civic technology on how they built their careers and how they use data in a variety of surprising ways. Persistent IDs for Research: Why PIDs Matter — Thursday, February 12, 1-2 p.m.
Stacy Winchester, the research data librarian at the University of South Carolina, will discuss persistent identifiers (PIDs) and explain how they improve reproducibility, citation, discoverability and long-term access to research outputs. Register for this workshop.
On campus, Clemson Libraries’ Data Visualization Lab will host a showcase and awards presentation for the first-ever Graduate Student Data Visualization Award competition on Friday, February 13, at 12:30 p.m. in the Phyfer Auditorium in the Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business. Submissions for the competition will be accepted from January 20 through February 3.
The Data Visualization Lab will also be tabling in the Cooper Library lobby throughout the week with giveaways and information about their services.
