Digital Humanities

Clemson Libraries welcomes opportunities to collaborate with you on your digital humanities projects. We can provide advice on grants, workshops, and funding opportunities. Additionally, we can help you identify and learn specific digital tools and methods to use in your research, teaching, and publishing. Contact us to schedule a consultation.

HathiTrust

Clemson University Libraries is a member of HathiTrust, a global partnership of major research institutions and libraries that hosts the largest set of digitized books available online in the research community. A major benefit of our membership is access to The HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC), which offers computational analysis tools for the HathiTrust corpus to help meet the technical challenges researchers face when dealing with massive amounts of digital text. The HTRC has developed a suite of tools and services for text data mining including web-based algorithms, freely-accessible datasets, and secure computing capsules.

Gale Digital Scholarship Lab

Gale’s Digital Scholar Lab is a service available to Clemson researchers to analyze the primary source materials available in the Gale Primary Sources database. With Digital Scholar Lab, you can: search Gale databases, find relevant texts, and create a content set; prepare documents for analysis by stripping the text of unnecessary words, punctuation, and other characters; and use analysis tools to explore your content set in new ways with visualizations to help create new insights into your selected texts.

Geospatial Technologies

The Libraries collaborates closely with the Clemson Center for Geospatial Technologies on digital humanities and data visualization projects involving geospatial data. Additionally, the CCGT offers training on software of interest to the digital humanities community including ArcGIS, ESRI StoryMaps, Microsoft BI, Tableau, D3.js, OpenRefine, Python, and R.

Digitization

The Libraries offer consulting and assistance for your digital humanities projects, including digitization of unique and print material and public scanning workshops. Visit our Digital Projects page to learn more about our digitization program.
