We serve as a regional supplier of content to the South Carolina Digital Library with special emphasis on the Upcountry of South Carolina–these collections include material from Clemson’s Special Collections Library and other institutional partners, regional SCDL partners, and the National Park Service.
Production services include the digitization of print materials, photographs, negatives, books, maps, objects, etc. Our lab specializes in flatbed scanners, book scanners, and medium format digital-back camera systems. We digitize materials for both archival purposes and web-based access needs. We offer consulting and assistance to interested SCDL upstate regional partners in setting up their scanning equipment, hosting access copies of their material in our CONTENTdm repository, and exploring options for digital preservation.
Additionally, we help manage the SC Service Hub of the Digital Public Library of America. We play an integral role in the development and implementation of statewide metadata standards, and have taken a leading role in the development of geospatial metadata best practices. We offer metadata assistance to SCDL partners in the upstate as needed and ensure compliance with DPLA and OAI-PMH data harvesting protocols.
Digital Projects manages instances of the CollectiveAccess metadata management tool, and offer training and consulting services for other entities on campus to use it.
We serve as a resource for outsourced digitization projects and broker agreements with third-party vendors, such as Lyrasis.
