Friends of the Annual
The International T. S. Eliot Society is an association of Eliot scholars and aficionados based in the poet’s hometown, St. Louis, Missouri. The Society meets annual, usually on the weekend closest to Eliot’s birthday (September 26); meetings typically take place in St. Louis, but the Society has also met near the Eliots’ former home in Cape Ann, in London, in Paris, and in Rapallo, Italy. The Society also publishes Time Present, which includes Eliot-related news, Society business, and reviews of recent scholarly work. It also sponsors special sessions each year at the Modern Languages Association convention, the South Atlantic Modern Languages Association conference, the American Literature Association conference, and the Louisville Conference on Literature and Culture Since 1900.
Based in Little Gidding, Cambridgeshire, The T. S. Eliot Society of the United Kingdom sponsors the Annual T. S. Eliot Cambridge Lecture series, assists with the organization of the T. S. Eliot Festival held each July in Little Gidding, and otherwise promotes Eliot’s works throughout the United Kingdom and beyond. It publishes a regular newsletter, Exchanges, as well as The Journal of the T. S. Eliot Society. The Society’s website features a comprehensive news section, where Eliot-related events, performances, and publications are announced.
The T. S. Eliot International Summer School convenes each July at the Institute of English Studies, University of London. The School welcomes to Bloomsbury all with an interest in Eliot’s life and work and offers generous, competitive bursaries to students and graduate students. The Summer School’s academic program features lectures and seminars by some of the most most distinguished scholars of T. S. Eliot and modernist literature, as well as some of the most celebrated poets and dramatists of our time. Excursions include visits to Little Gidding (during their T. S. Eliot Festival), to Burnt Norton, and to East Coker, as well as to Eliot-related sites in London.
