Carnegie Research 1 Task Force Report

Recently, an R1 Task Force was created to conduct research and collect data to evaluate Clemson’s current operations, discern the differences between Clemson Libraries and 12 specific aspirational peer R1 Libraries and offer recommendations to help Clemson Libraries bridge the gap.

The committee found that Clemson Libraries falls short when comparing our budget, number of employees, size, space for student collaboration and research support for faculty.

The Task Force made five recommendations for the future of Clemson Libraries:

  1. Investing more resources into the library, including budget, personnel, operations and space
  2. Enhancing support for digital literacy with technology lending, makerspaces, and data visualization and immersive spaces
  3. Increasing research services for faculty and graduate students through research data services, scholarly communications, grant support and awards, and digital humanities
  4. Improving learning accessibility and affordability for undergraduate students with textbook affordability and information literacy & instruction
  5. Maintaining support for Library Collections, including collections budget, collections organization, and unique collections.
